DECA District Competition - 2024

For the second year in a row, the Mentor LSC Community organized the yearly DECA District competition. Over 400 students from 10 schools in the greater Cleveland area participated in events such as Accounting, Hospitality, Marketing, and Management. Those who received awards now have the chance to attend the state-level competition scheduled for March in Columbus. play we have the death of it it's a business competition word that individual and partner series compete in different categories of all different kinds of business something we do to prepare ourselves for the real world students to compete and cons of different categories they get the auction a few examples are accounting marketing management apparel and accessory marketing sports and entertainment marketing Human Resource Management so nearly at the area on business is represented in Becca and a student can choose to pursue whatever areas they they sign most interesting down with everybody and you go to your prep room they give you so papers are they give you your scenario so you can write down some knows that you get interviewed by the judge that interview asking questions make sure you keep an eye contact confidence know you are opened a door to a lot of new things that you haven't seen such a we don't see what the workforce is like out there until we were in college and it's nice to get the experience now to know if you like it know if it's something what to do in the future I did HR management I want to know how to work with people but not necessarily like the customer people within your company so I did team event I did hospitality and tourism we prepped for a couple weeks after we came back from break we have something called kti's so if she performance indicators we had to go through those that we would eventually use in a competition to present to a judge with your teammate you kind of have to come up with these ideas like on the spot and they asked you a question and you roleplay it's a big role-play scenario and it gives you real world experience talking to a professional and promoting ideas just like you would in a professional meeting competition help prepare students buy one teaching them the soft skills like how to dress professional how to communicate clearly how to solve problems both critical thinking skills that second required remember judged on their knowledge of the competition second system great ways to prepare them for their future my favorite part is honestly the stress of competing I like the adrenaline and it's like a rush and you really have to be professional are used to be kind of nervous with interviews because before it is actually you know around covid time I never did like a real job interview before that one of my first real like interview experience is so it definitely gave me that what is the light come in and Overton do you know of course dress professionally and just get that experience of talking to someone in that type of environment so it's definitely a good learning experience has a huge production of 400 students 100 volunteers to and they all had a chance to compete to make it to the state competition which is in March in Columbus Ohio
