Lake Shore Compact Students Place At SkillsUSA Nationals!

We are excited to share that our students recently returned from the The SkillsUSA National Conference and it was a fantastic event. Our attendees did a fabulous job and represented not just the Lake Shore Compact of Mentor, Euclid, and Wickliffe Schools, but the state of Ohio! Armani Howard served as a voting delegate. Where she made business decisions on behalf of Ohio and worked to vote in the 2022-2023 National officers. States are limited in how many voting delegates we can have, so we are pleased Armani was able to participate in one of these coveted spots.

In regards to competition, we were able to send two competition teams who earned gold at the state level. During the conference they had an outstanding performance. We are pleased to announce the following results:

Entrepreneurship, Project NFTy, is a mobile application that streamlines the process of purchasing NFT's. You can think of an NFT as digital content with a certificate of authenticity. This team created a business plan that required research for business operations, finance and marketing aspects of the project. The team then created a 10 minute presentation. Both the business plan and presentation were delivered at Nationals. This team earned 11th place in the nation! Congratulations to Cadence Burr, Zachary Halstead, Gavin Rupert, and Grant Wheelock!

The app allows users to create and update pet profiles, generate posters with embedded QR codes for reporting found pets or pet sightings. This team created not just the app but a 8 minute presentation and a 8 foot x 8 foot display. This team earned 4th place in the nation! Congratulations to Evie Bennett, Ryan Nichols and Caius Price!

We would like to do a shout out to our awesome alumni who traveled to Atlanta to compete or volunteer. Ian Pike competed in computer programming representing Lakeland Community College. He earned 5th in the nation! Brandon Preuer and Cal Kahoun served in the Courtesy Corps where they served to set-up, help run, and tear down the conference. Performing duties as needed for contest coordinators. Their love for SkillsUSA is contagious and we are thrilled that they continue to support this organization as alumni.

Thank you again to our Programming and Software Development Instructor/Lake Shore Compact SkillsUSA Advisor, Melinda O'Connor.  If not for her tireless effort, passion for SkillsUSA, and commitment to our students success, this would not have been possible!
